Ethical Drugs

Shionogi's core ethical drug business accounts for more than ninety percent of its total net sales. The Company specializes in three product areas related to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases; infectious diseases and immunological disorders; and cancer and related chronic pain.

Anticipated market growth in the area of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases has led Shionogi to position this field as its top priority. Building on a product lineup that includes the antihypertensives Landel(R) ‚ a calcium antagonist; Longes(R) ‚ an ACE inhibitor; and Crestor(R) ‚ a hyperchoresterolaemia treatment drug launched in 2005. And then the Company launched Irbetan(R), angiotensin II receptor antagonist, in July 2008.In the area of infectious diseases and immunological disorders‚ Flomox(R) oral antibiotic‚ Flumarin(R) injectable antibiotic and Vancomycin‚ an injectable antibiotic effective in treating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)‚ have each secured the top share of their respective markets and have made the Shionogi brand synonymous with high-quality antibiotics. And Finibax(R) carbapenem antibiotic was launched in September 2005.

Avelox(R) new quinolone antibiotic was also launched in December 2005. In addition‚ sales of the anti-allergic Claritin(R) have been growing steadily.And Shionogi introduced CLARITIN(R) RediTabs(R) in November 2004.

In cancer and cancer pain field, in February 2007, Oxynorm powder formulation was added to the existing product lineup for cancer pain treatment consisting of OxyContin(R) and MS Contin(R). We will work to enhance our activities on cancer pain treatment as the leading company. Shionogi's extensive lineup of anticancer agents includes Imunace(R) ‚ a recombinant interleukin-2‚ and Aqupla(R) ‚ an anti-tumor drug.

OTC Products

In this category Shionogi has Sedes(R) ‚ analgesic⁄antipyretics‚ and Popon(R) ‚ vitamin compounds‚ as its main brands. To expand our Sedes(R) brand‚ in addition to New Sedes(R) ‚ Sedes(R) –Hi and Sedes(R) Cure we newly launched Sedes(R) V which contains vitamin B1 with antipyretic ingredients for headache‚ pain associated with stiffness and fever in July‚ 2006. And as a new Popon brand‚ in addition to Popon(R) –S‚ Shionogi is now marketing Popon(R) –C White which contains vitamin C with L–cysteine. We also offer our Pylon(R) brand‚ cold remedies; Belix(R) A‚ vitamin B1 with E preparation; and Shionogi(R) D Ointment for the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. In addition to medicines‚ Shionogi also offers its Correct(R) brand‚ denture products‚ rounding out a comprehensive product lineup that contributes to consumer health.

Our leading diagnostic drug is a reagent used in the measurement of blood BNP. The blood BNP test is the only test that allows accurate estimation of coronary functions. Because it allows the detection of even extremely mild coronary disorders from an early stage‚ its use is expanding to include not only heart specialists‚ but also general internists‚ as well as in health screening and physical examinations. It is also starting to be used overseas. For comprehensive product lineup‚ as post Shionoria BNP which Shionogi has sold conventionally‚ in December 2004 Shionogi launched a new product‚MI02 Shionogi BNP with which we can measure blood BNP automatically using a special equipment. Shionogi launched in Shionospot(R) BNP September 2006, with which we can measure BNP in whole blood samples using a small equipment, Shionospot(R) Reader. In the area of allergy‚ HRT Shionogi(R) reagent‚ which can detect isolation of histamine‚ is attracting specialists' attention. The use of HRT Shionogi(R) is expanding in the area of allergic test including confirmation if a patient can withdraw from allergy–free food‚ determination of the antigens which are causes of hay fever and atopic dermatitis‚ and confirmation of the effect of medicine.For diabetes patients Shionogi is marketing Precision Exceed(R) 　and Precision Exceed(R) Starter Box and simplified measuring device‚ Extra(R) which is available for measurement of ß–ketone. We are creating a group of products that focuses on the area of chronic diseases including cardiovascular diseases‚ allergy and diabetes.
